The Guildford Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers

The Guild’s annual six-bell striking competition was held at Dunsfold on 26th September 2009. The Judge was Stephen Darvill. He commented that the bells are challenging to ring well, but he had had a pleasant time sitting out in the sun listening to the ringing, none of which was bad. All the bands appeared to be nervous to start will, but then settled down. .

The winners were Cranleigh with 88 faults. They rang Grandsire Doubles - click on the link to listen to it. The judge commented that this was the fastest ringing, and the pace was very nice.

Second were Shalford with 105 faults. They rang Bob Doubles with a good pace and rhythm. The last lead of each 120 was exemplary.

Third were Egham with 114 faults. They rang Bob Minor. Their main problem was that they struggled to find a rhythm, but there were some lovely stretches.

Fourth were Farnham with 138 faults. They rang Grandsire Doubles and also struggled to maintain a rhythm, with the tenor slightly slow at times.

Fifth were Leatherhead District with 142 faults. They rang Cambridge Surprise Minor, but although there were good spells, they also struggled to keep a rhythm
